The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) determined Turkey’s top 100 companies based on the sales revenue growth rate for the period 2016-2018. Prepared together with the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV), the list included Karen Enerji, a company affiliated with our group and the only firm from Kahramanmaraş, ranked 44th. The award ceremony was held via video application with the participation of Turkey’s Minister of Trade Ruhsar Pekcan and TOBB President Rıfat Hisarcıkoğlu.
Despite the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, our group, employing 10,000 people across 6 main sectors, has continued its investments and achieved outstanding successes in every sector it operates in.
Our group’s fields of activity focus on sectors where Turkey is most dependent on foreign sources. The best examples of this are our investments in paper and energy.
Regarding energy investments: In Aydın Germencik, Maren operates 7 geothermal power plants; KÇS Aydın Branch has 2, and Kiper has 1, totaling 10 geothermal power plants. Additionally, Karen Kahramanmaraş Elektrik Üretim AŞ operates the Balkusan Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HES) facilities in Karaman. Together, these generate approximately 1,600 GWh of energy annually and employ around 400 people.
Karen Kahramanmaraş Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., operating in the provinces of Karaman, Aydın, and İzmir, marked a great success by ranking among TOBB’s fastest-growing top 100 companies. The Balkusan Hydroelectric Dam and HES in Karaman have produced an average of 72 million kWh of energy per year so far. Additionally, Karen operates two geothermal drilling towers in Aydın and has become one of Turkey’s largest energy producers meeting the country’s energy demand.
The award ceremony, which began with an opening speech by TOBB President Rıfat Hisarcıkoğlu and was held online, was attended by Turkey’s Minister of Trade Ruhsar Pekcan and the owners and executives of the companies in Turkey’s top 100 list. Representing our group at the ceremony was Murat Gökpur, Kipaş Karen Operations Manager.
During the ceremony, Minister Ruhsar Pekcan expressed her gratitude to all sector representatives who continued working despite the challenging conditions caused by the pandemic and emphasized that the government will continue to provide economic support to businesspeople and employees with all available resources.
